Miss Saigon is a musical by Claude-Michel Schönberg and Alain Boublil, with lyrics by Boublil and Richard Maltby, Jr. It is based on Giacomo Puccini's opera Madame Butterfly, and similarly tells the tragic tale of a doomed romance involving an Asian woman abandoned by her American lover. The original West End production ran for 10 years (1989–1999) after a total of 4,264 performances and the Broadway production (1991–2001) performed a total of 4,092, becoming one of the longest-running shows in theater history. In 2014, a West End revival opened featuring dynamic changes to some elements in the show; the Broadway revival opened in 2017.
